Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that the organization has signed Defenseman Matt Hanson.
This contract will mark the Penticton, BC native's first foyer into the ECHL after spending the last two seasons in the Central Hockey League (CHL).
"Signing Hanson will help solidify our blueline," Mark Morrison Head Coach said "He is a great skater who is fundamentally sound in the defensive end, and is capable of providing points offensively."
The 5-foot-10, 195-pound Hanson played 40 games in the CHL last season between Tulsa (14 games) and Youngstown (26 games). During that time he notched 15 points (1g-14a) and accumulated 40 minutes in penalties. In six games of playoff action with the Youngstown Steelhounds he scored one goal and had eight minutes in penalties.
The 24-year-old played three years of NCAA hockey for the University of Alaska Anchorage. In 71 career games he scored 10 goals and collected 16 assists for 26 points.
Hanson also played one year of junior hockey in the BCHL with his hometown Penticton Panthers in the 2000-01 season. Playing in 59 games that season he accounted for 31 points (9g-22a) and 50 minutes in penalties.
