Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announce that they have signed forward Andy Brandt for the 2009-10 season.
In 2008-09 the Wausau, Wisconsin native played in all 72 games for the Gwinnett Gladiators and notched 31 points (10g-21a) while earning 34 minutes in penalties. During the 2009 Kelly Cup Playoffs he scored one goal in five games.
"Andy is a great addition to our team," General Manager and Head Coach Mark Morrison said. "He is an aggressive player who finishes checks and can put the puck in the net."
Brandt's rights came to the Salmon Kings on June 15th via a trade involving both the South Carolina Sting Rays and the Gwinnett Gladiators. On January 27, 2009 Victoria sent goaltender Jonathan Boutin to South Carolina in exchange for future considerations. South Carolina had previously made a deal with Gwinnett that had sent goaltender Josh Johnson to the Gladiators for future considerations. South Carolina then gave the Salmon Kings the rights to the Gwinnett futures to complete the Boutin trade.
The 6-1, 190lb Brandt is entering his third professional season. He has spent his entire professional career with Gwinnett having played in 148 games scoring 28 goals and adding 47 assists for 75 points. He has also earned 67 minutes in penalties. He has one goal in 14 career Kelly Cup Playoff games.
Prior to turning professional the 26-year-old played four seasons with the University of Wisconsin Badgers. During his four year career in Wisconsin he played in 130 games adding 14 points (5g-9a). He was a member of Wisconsin's 2006 National Championship team.
