Salem Red Sox News Release
SALEM, Va. - The Salem Red Sox are teaming up with the Virginia Tech School of Communication for the fifth consecutive year ahead of the 2025 baseball season to broadcast all 2025 Red Sox home games. Braden Schenck will be the voice of the Salem Red Sox ahead of Opening Day set for Friday, April 4. Games will be aired on streaming services and MiLB.com.
Braden Schenck is currently a sophomore at Virginia Tech in the Sports Media and Analytics program. A native of Darien, Connecticut, Braden comes to Salem after spending the previous two summers broadcasting in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League with the Falmouth Commodores and Wareham Gatemen. Currently, Braden serves as a play-by-play broadcaster for Virginia Tech baseball, basketball, lacrosse, volleyball, soccer, and softball on the ACC Network Extra. Additionally, he calls Hokies football and basketball for 3304 Sports and calls softball games on the Virginia Tech Sports Network. Schenck began broadcasting in high school calling over 200 games for DAF Media over four years at Darien High School.
"It's an honor to join the Salem Red Sox family for the 2025 season," said Schenck. "Baseball in Salem has such a rich history, and I'm excited to experience it firsthand while sharing the stories of these young players as they begin their professional careers."
3304 Sports is the multi-media online platform for student sports journalism and the digital home of the Sports Play-by-Play class at Virginia Tech. Members of the 3304 Sports team cover major college sporting events, giving them the opportunity to learn and grow in a professional environment.
Sports Media & Analytics students at Virginia Tech study sports journalism and work in the school's digital broadcast studio, newsroom, and media lab. Students learn in real-world environments through extensive field work on campus and at stadiums and arenas throughout the ACC and the country.
"All of us at Virginia Tech are delighted to collaborate with the Salem Red Sox again this season in one of the most unique partnerships in professional baseball," said ESPN and Westwood One broadcaster Bill Roth, who serves as a Professor of Practice in Virginia Tech's School of Communication. "Braden is an outstanding broadcaster who has excelled on the air both here at Tech and in the Cape Cod League. Like all Red Sox fans, I'm excited to hear his exciting calls all summer long in Salem."
"We are very excited to continue the partnership with Bill Roth and Virginia Tech School of Communication," said General Manager, Allen Lawrence. "This collaboration is a great opportunity for students in the program and a perfect fit for providing on-air coverage for our fans."
