Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs surrendered the lead late and the Holly Springs Salamanders won a back-and-forth matchup, 8-5 Friday night at Salamanders Stadium.

The SwampDogs wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the first inning against Salamanders starter Michael Elwell, as Mitch Roman (Jr./Wright State) led off with a single, then Austin Upshaw (Fr./Kennesaw State) laced a double to right centerfield to score Roman. Upshaw would score two batters later on a wild pitch.

The Salamanders would score a run in the bottom of the second against SwampDogs starter Matt Randolph (Fr./Georgetown) who pitched well again in his second start with the team. Randolph lasted 5.1 innings allowing three runs on six hits while striking out three and walking none.

The SwampDogs offense put up a three runs in the fifth inning, scoring three runs thanks to back-to-back doubles from Branden Boggetto (Jr./Southeast Missouri) and Carson Waln (Soph./Wofford).

With the SwampDogs up 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Nolan Mullen (Soph./Furman) and Alex Siddle (Jr./Southeast Missouri) faltered out of the bullpen and gave up five runs as the Salamanders took the lead.

Mullen got the loss, falling to 1-2 on the season, while Brett Daniels got the win in relief for Holly Springs, improving his record to 3-4.

The SwampDogs (18-33) return home Saturday to face the Edenton Steamers at 7:05, followed by the final fireworks extravaganza of the summer! It's also the Winning Inning presented by Coffman Plumbing, and the SwampDogs could give away $10,000 every inning. For tickets and more info, call the SwampDogs ticket office at 910-426-5900.
