WINNIPEG, MB (May 12, 2009) - The regular season is starting at the perfect time for the St. Paul Saints as they completed a three game exhibition sweep of the Winnipeg Goldeyes with a 6-1 victory on Tuesday afternoon at Canwest Park.

The Saints wasted little time scoring as they put up three runs in the first two innings. With one out in the first Ron Fenwick singled to left and with two outs Craig Brazell doubled him to third. Brent Krause roped a single to center scoring Fenwick, but Brazell was thrown out trying to score.

After the Goldeyes tied it in the bottom of the inning the Saints took a 3-1 lead in the second. Daron Roberts led off with a solo homer to left. Later in the inning with runners at second and third and two outs, Fenwick reached on a fielding error by third baseman Kevin West which allowed Steve Butler to score.

The Saints put the game away in the seventh with three runs as Steve Butler led off the inning with a single. Chris Herbert reached on a fielding error by West that sent Butler to third. Andrew Schmiesing's grounder to second was thrown away which allowed Butler to score and put runners at second and third. Fenwick drove home Herbert with a single to left and Schmiesing scored on a wild pitch.

The Saints pounded out 15 hits, three each by Fenwick, Krause and Steve Butler. Seven of the nine starters got in on the hit parade.

The Saints pitching staff was just as strong with starter Mitch Wylie hurling 4.0 innings allowing one run on three hits while walking one and striking out two. Kyle Foster, Mike Bille and Lonnie Robinson combined to throw 5.0 shutout innings allowing just two hits.

The Saints will work out at Midway Stadium on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. and then begin their 2009 American Association season with a game Thursday night, May 14 at Sioux Falls Stadium against the Sioux Falls Canaries at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard live on Relevant Radio 1330.
