Saints Scribbles: Dubuque Wins in Waterloo Again

February 11, 2020 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

Ty Jackson scored the game winning goal with just over seven minutes left in the third period and the Dubuque Fighting Saints fought back from a third period deficit to beat the Waterloo Black Hawks 3-2 on Tuesday night. Tommy Middleton scored twice, and Aidan McCarthy stopped 18 shots in a perfect relief appearance. Dubuque moved to 4-2 against Waterloo this season and have won all three at Young Arena.

-Ty and Dylan Jackson, both playing in their 100th USHL game, were big pieces to the win for Dubuque. They each continued their point streaks -seven games straight for Dylan and 10 for Ty- and factored into big moments of the game.

-Dylan recorded helpers on each of Tommy Middleton's goals and Ty was credited with the game winner on a fortuitous bounce off a Black Hawk stick.

-Middleton has been on fire over the last four nights, recording four goals in the last three games. Middleton entered last weekend with three goals this season and now has seven after a two goal output against Waterloo and one in each of the games against Youngstown.

-Griffin Ness was strong for the Black Hawks and continues his dominance and assault on the scoring charts. He now has 16 points in his last eight games and has not scored in just four of 16 games since winter break.

-McCarthy came up incredibly large in the early stages of the third period for Dubuque. Waterloo attacked with a flurry of shots in the first two minutes, but McCarthy made his best stops of the night to keep the game even.

-With the win, Dubuque has now won five in a row for the third time this season. The Saints will be back at home Friday, where they also have a lengthy win streak brewing of six-straight at the Mystique Ice Center.

-Dubuque's defense got involved on the scoresheet in this game as well, with Aidan Fulp and Michael Feenstra grabbing assists. For Feenstra it was his second point in as many nights.

-Dubuque is now 3-0 this season in Waterloo as they have outscored the Black Hawks 18-5 over those three games. They have now won three straight in the season series and also sit tied with Waterloo at the top of the Cowbell Cup standings.

-Next up for Dubuque, a two-game series with Green Bay. Dubuque will be home Friday and then in Green Bay Saturday.
