San Angelo Saints News Release

San Angelo, TX—The San Angelo Saints of the Central Hockey League today announced the signing of forward Justin Van Parys to contract for the 2004-05 season.

Van Parys joins the Saints after not missing a game last season with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. The Red Deer, Alberta native posted 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points and served 102 penalty minutes in 64 appearances. Former Head Coach Tracy Egeland of the Killer Bees knows that Van Parys will fit well into the Saints roster.

"Justin brings a lot of energy to the ice and is a really hard working guy. Fans young and old can relate to him and I know he will become a fan favorite for San Angelo."

Van Parys, a 6'3" 200-pound right-winger, began his professional career in 1999 with the Lake Charles Ice Pirates of the Western Professional Hockey League. He tallied 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points and served 116 penalty minutes in 62 regular season games. During the post-season run, he contributed another goal, assist and ten PIMs. He spent the next two seasons with the El Paso Buzzards of the WPHL/CHL where he posted a total 16 goals, 31 assists and 243 penalty minutes in the regular season and another 4 goals, 10 assists and 29 penalty minutes in the post season.

Saints Head Coach Ray Edwards says the fans will appreciate Van Parys for his leadership and work ethic. "Justin is a big, strong guy that can create a lot of room for his teammates. He works hard and as one of our veterans, I will depend on him to lead by example."

"There is always a great atmosphere in San Angelo and that makes a huge difference on the ice," said Van Parys. "I work hard and try to have fun with it, so other guys will stay loose and follow my example."

The Saints acquired the rights to Van Parys on August 5 in exchange for future considerations. The puck drops on Saints Hockey as your San Angelo Saints take on the Laredo Bucks October 22nd.
