St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (February 11, 2009) - From Lauderdale, MN to St. Paul. From St. Olaf College to the St. Paul Saints. From seminary school to the all-time wins mark. For Charlie Ruud he's nearly done it all and he will return to the Saints for his fifth season signing a deal to play the 2009 season.

The 27-year-old Ruud had another incredible season in 2008 earning him an All-Star Game start at Midway Stadium. He was 12-4 with a 3.85 ERA and one complete game in 19 games (18 starts). The 12 victories tied a single season Saints record and was third in the American Association. In 112.1 innings pitched he walked just 26 while striking out 56 and the opposition hit .267 against him. Ruud holds numerous all-time Saints records: victories (32), games started (60), innings pitched (397) and complete games (9) and is just 21 strikeouts shy of surpassing Jake Whitney for first all-time.

"I'm not tired of playing yet. It's still fun," said Ruud. "I want to win a championship and if and when I leave baseball, I don't want to have any regrets."

Ruud was discovered in a try out camp and was originally signed on August 24, 2005 to make an emergency start in game two of a doubleheader. He hurled a complete game allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out five. That solidified his spot in Saints lore.

The Saints roster now stands at 12, four position players and eight pitchers. The league maximum is 22.
