Saginaw Spirit News Release
The Saginaw Spirit wrapped up a three game Eastern Conference road trip with a 7-6 victory over the Oshawa Generals on Sunday evening. Saginaw's goals came from Nick Moutrey, John McFarland, Garret Ross (2), Brandon Saad, Michael Fine, and Anthony Camara. Jake Paterson made 32 saves in net for the Spirit.
The Spirit jumped out to a hot start once again, as they did the night before in Peterborough, with a quick goal by Nick Moutrey just 1:08 into the first period. The goal would be Moutrey's first OHL goal. Ten minutes later on the power play, John McFarland extended his team lead in goals as he netted his 10th goal of the season to make the score 2-0. Less than a minute later, Garret Ross scored on the power play, his fourth of the year from Brandon Saad and Vince Trocheck to put the Spirit up 3-0.
2:33 into the second period, once again on the power play, Brandon Saad extended his goal scoring streak to five games and Saginaw's lead was 4-0. Oshawa would answer back a minute later as Christian Thomas would net his fifth of the season for the Generals as the score became 4-1. The score was that up until the last four seconds of the second period when Oshawa captain Boone Jenner would score to make the score 4-2.
Saginaw's Michael Fine would extend the lead back to three goals early in the third with a power play goal, assists going to Brandon Saad and John McFarland. Oshawa would answer back, pulling the score back to two goals again with a goal off the stick of Nick Quinn, one minute later. The teams would continue to battle through the third exchanging goals again, Saginaw's coming from Anthony Camara to make the score 6-3 and Oshawa's coming from Emerson Clark to pull the score back to 6-4. Garret Ross would net his second of the night at the 14:24 mark to extend the Spirit lead once again, but Oshawa would not go quietly on Sunday evening. Oshawa would manage to get two more goals past Jake Paterson in the closing two minutes of the game, however that's as close as they would get as Saginaw would skate to a 7-6 victory over the Generals. The Spirit return home on Wednesday as they face off against their division rival the Plymouth Whalers, puck drop is at 7:11!
