Sacramento Republic FC News Release

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento Republic FC have agreed to a USL contract with goalkeeper Rafael Di-az for the 2018 season, with a club option for the 2019 season, pending league and federation approval.

"Raph has had three years in the Red Bull system, both with the first team and Red Bulls II, and is a great addition to our goalkeeping corp," said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant. "His experience in an MLS locker room will be integral to setting the culture for our club."

Di-az joins Republic FC following three successful seasons with the New York Red Bulls organization. The goalkeeper originally joined Red Bulls II after playing the 2014 season with Orlando City SC. He spent two seasons with Red Bulls II before moving to the MLS club in 2017. Di-az made 23 USL appearances over four seasons, recording a 1.29 goals against average.

Diaz played four seasons at St. John's University from 2009-2013. He holds the school record for shutouts with 32 over his Red Storm career, including a career-high nine in his senior year when he also recorded a 0.80 goals against average.

Sacramento Republic FC began training camp on Feb. 1 and will host their first 2018 friendly on Feb. 15 against MLS side Seattle Sounders FC, followed by a friendly against MLS newcomers Los Angeles Football Club on Feb. 25. To view a complete schedule and learn more visit SacRepublicFC.com.
