Sacramento Mountain Lions News Release
Sacramento, CA - Wednesday, April 20, 2011 - The Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League have announced that the Powerhouse Science Center will be the Featured Charity for their home opener this season.
"The Mountain Lions have brought a level of excitement to our region and we are trying to capitalize on that momentum," said PETER WILLSON, Director of Development for the Powerhouse Science Center. "We know that the Mountain Lion fans are passionate supporters of their home team and we hope to engage those fans in supporting our project."
The date of the Mountain Lions home opener is not set yet as the UFL schedule has not been released. The season will begin in August.
"We are thrilled to introduce this project to our fans. When you look at what the Powerhouse Science Center is bringing to our community, how could you not be excited about this - said JOE WAGONER, Vice President of Business Operations for the Mountain Lions. "It's a perfect partnership to kick off our Featured Charity program. Personally I can't wait to take my family to the learning center once it's completed."
The Mountain Lions will have a different Featured Charity for each home game. They are currently meeting with many local charities to fill the remaining three spots but organizations are welcome to reach out to the team if they are interested in partnering for the 2011 season. Interested parties should call the Mountain Lions at (916) 383-5466 and ask for Director of Ticket Sales and Service JAMIE VON SOSSAN.
The Powerhouse Science Center, a science and space, learning center for Northern California that will be located on the banks of the Sacramento River, also partnered with the Mountain Lions during the 2010 season.
"The Mountain Lions give us the chance to introduce the Powerhouse Science Center to an audience that we have not previously been able to tap into," Willson said. "This is our second year working with the team and we are very excited as our sponsors, volunteers and donors all agree that the Mountain Lion game-day event was far and away their favorite event."

The final player tryout will be held at San Mateo Community College on May 22. Each tryout will run from 9 a.m. to noon and the fee is $60.
