MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES Powell: Franchise Leader in Three-Point Field Goals Made

During the July 7, 2009, victory over the Chicago Sky, Monarchs guard Kara Lawson set a new Sacramento franchise record in three-point field goals made as she sank her career 315th long-range basket with 4:45 left in the third quarter. In doing so, she surpassed the former record of 314, set by Ruthie Bolton. At the time, Monarchs forward Nicole Powell had 313 career three-pointers made; now, Powell is the franchise leader, with 344, while Lawson has 332. (as of 8/18)

Lawson Named to 2009-12 USA Basketball Women's National Team

Monarchs guard Kara Lawson is one of the first of eight players named to the 2009-12 USA Basketball Women's National Team. She will train with the USA Women's Nation Team, which will select its final 2012 Olympic roster, should the USA qualify, from the overall pool of players attending training session throughout the next few years.

Monarchs Acquire Guard Kristin Haynie From Detroit in Exchange for Forward Crystal Kelly

The Sacramento Monarchs acquired guard Kristin Haynie from Detroit in exchange for forward Crystal Kelly on Aug. 17, the WNBA trade deadline. Haynie originally was selected by the Monarchs in the first round (ninth overall) of the 2005 WNBA Draft; she helped Sacramento win the 2005 WNBA Championship as well as back-to-back Western Conference Titles (2005, 2006).
