Lawson Sets New Franchise Record: Three-Point Field Goals Made
During the July 7 victory over the Chicago Sky, Monarchs guard Kara Lawson set a new Sacramento franchise record in three-point field goals made as she sank her career 315th long-range basket with 4:45 left in the third quarter. Her mark of 315 surpassed the former record of 314, set by Ruthie Bolton.
Double-Digit Rebounding
Sacramento has tallied 10 or more offensive rebounds in all 11 games so far this season and it has out-rebounded all but two of its opponents, including a tie in total rebounds with Chicago on June 30. The Monarchs individual season-high in rebounds is 10, as recorded by forward Rebekkah Brunson on July 7 against the Chicago Sky.
Penicheiro: WNBA's All-Time Leader in Assists, Steals and Games Played (foreign-born players)
On Sept. 5, 2008, Ticha Penicheiro became the first player in WNBA history to eclipse the 2,000 assist mark as she dished out five against the Mercury in Phoenix. Additionally, Penicheiro recorded 67 steals during the 2008 season to reach 655 career steals and become the WNBA's all-time steal leader. In doing so, she passed the former mark of 632 set by Sheryl Swoopes. Currently, Penicheiro has 2,046 career assists (5.9 per game) and 661 career steals (1.9 per game), as of 7/7/09.
Additionally, Penicheiro is the league's all-time leader in games played of all foreign-born players. Additionally, she ranks 4th overall in games played, with 346 (as of July 7, 2009), having just surpassed Los Angeles Sparks center Lisa Leslie (345), who currently is injured.
