SaberKittens Tryouts set for January 17

SAN JOSE, Calif. (Jan. 16, 2003) – Do you want to be a part of the most popular dance squad in Bay Area sports? Would you like an opportunity to perform in front of huge crowds while getting paid to do it? Then here is your chance. The San Jose SaberCats dance team, the SaberKittens, will be holding tryouts for the 2004 team

Preliminary auditions are scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2004, beginning at 8:30 a.m., at the Fry's Electronics Gym, 382 Portage Avenue in Palo Alto.

All interested dancers are asked to pre-register, either on-line at www.sanjosesabercats.com or by calling (408) 573-5577 to request an application, prior to the tryout date. Dancers may register on the day of the audition but should arrive early to fill out paper work.

Now in their 10th season, the SaberKittens will perform at all eight San Jose SaberCats regular season home games at HP Pavilion in San Jose, as well as represent the SaberCats at promotional and community events throughout the season.

Applicants must be a high school graduate and at least 18 years of age by January 17. All dancers are required to bring a recent photograph and are asked to wear a two-piece leotard, flesh-colored tights and jazz/dance or non-marking tennis shoes to the audition.

Callbacks will take place Sunday, January 18. Be advised that the SaberKitten tryouts will be closed to the public. No friends or family members will be allowed to watch the preliminary or final auditions.

Recognized as one of the nation's most affordable and fan-friendly sports, the Arena Football League will begin its 18th season in February 2004, making it the second-longest running football league in U.S. history, trailing only the NFL.

The SaberCats celebrate their 10th season in the Arena Football League in 2004. A network-TV sport, the AFL enters its second season on NBC with the SaberCats scheduled to be broadcast a total of seven times (six road, one home).
