San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. (Nov. 12, 2007) - Since the free agency period began on October 29, the defending ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats have added a total of eight free agents to their roster, including the three most recent signings, WR Jermaine Jamison, OL Nick Mihlhauser and OL Chris Pino, the club announced today.
"Each of these players were highly sought after by numerous AFL teams," SaberCats head coach and general manager Darren Arbet stated. "Jamison is a big athlete who can handle himself at a lot of different positions and the two big boys will give us some depth on the line."
Jamison (6-3, 200, Fresno State) spent the last two football seasons bouncing around on NFL practice squads and NFL Europa. He played in all 10 games for the Frankfurt Galaxy during Europa's final season and amassed 216 yards on 16 catches with a touchdown. He was in training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles prior to the start of the 2007 NFL season.
A four-year letterman at Fresno State, Jamison started 13 games during his career for the Bulldogs collecting 124 passes for 1,562 yards and 10 touchdowns during that time. He was selected as an Academic All-WAC and Honorable Mention All-WAC member his senior season.
Mihlhauser (6-3, 288, Washington State) was a three-year starter for the Cougars and earned Second Team All-Pac 10 honors his senior year. His versatility on the line allowed him to play both right guard and center during college. Mihlhauser was signed as an undrafted free agent by the San Diego Chargers in May of 2006 but was later released and picked up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Pino (6-5, 315, San Diego State) transferred from Palomar Junior College to SDSU after two outstanding years where he was named to the JC Gridwire All-America Team. After starting all 12 games for the Aztecs in 2005, Pino was signed to the Washington Redskins practice squad but logged his most recent NFL time with the Baltimore Ravens.
The SaberCats executed two additional transactions waiving WR Adam Herzing and OL Mookie Moore from their active roster.
A premier franchise in the AFL, the San Jose SaberCats have captured three ArenaBowl titles, seven Western Division championships, eight consecutive playoff appearances and own the league's best regular season record this decade. They begin defense of their AFL title on March 3 in Chicago and play their 2008 home opener on Saturday, March 15 against Western Division rival Arizona.
