
SaberCats sign Rufus Brown

SAN JOSE, Calif. (November 8, 2005) - Former Florida State University defensive back RUFUS BROWN signed a two-year contract to play for the two-time ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats, the club announced today.
Brown (5-9, 188), who enters his rookie season in the AFL, started 50 games during his four-year career with the Seminoles totaling 100 tackles and helped lead his teams to the 2001 Orange Bowl, the 2002 Gator Bowl and the 2003 Sugar Bowl.
His best season came as a junior when he was the only Seminole defensive back to start all 14 games and had career-highs for tackles for loss, forced fumbles, interceptions and pass break-ups. Brown was also ranked in the top 10 in the ACC in three categories
Signed by the NFL's Washington Redskins as a rookie free agent in April 2004, Brown was allocated to the NFL Europe's Hamburg Sea Devils where he had 17 total tackles and an interception before returning to the Redskins.
The SaberCats also signed former NFL receiver ATNAF HARRIS to their roster and claimed WR/LB KENNY SOLOMON off waivers from the Philadelphia Soul last week.
Harris (6-1, 182) spent time with the NFL's Houston Texans and Denver Broncos following a three-year career at Fresno State. He started the Texans' 2002 season finale against Tennessee catching an 8-yard pass.
Solomon (6-3, 195) spent time on the SaberCats practice squad last season before being signed by Green Bay of arenafootball2. He caught seven passes for 65 yards and a pair of scores in two games with the Blizzard.
The SaberCats open their 12th season in the Arena Football League on Saturday, January 28 when they host the expansion Utah Blaze.
