Destroyers add pair of wide receivers

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Destroyers have signed wide receiver/defensive back Hugh Smith and wide receiver/linebacker Mike Nizzi (pronounced nih-ZEE) team President David Paitson announced today. Smith and Nizzi become the 21st and 22nd free agent signings by the Destroyers.

Smith (5-10, 180, South Florida) joins the Destroyers after spending the past season in the Canadian Football League. He had six receptions for 79 yards and averaged 13.2 yards per reception. Smith attended the University of South Florida from 1999-2002 where he became the Bulls all-time career and single-season leader in receptions and receiving yards.

Nizzi (6-4, 210, Nebraska-Omaha) enters his first season in Arena Football, but has played the indoor game before as a member of the Omaha Beef of the United Indoor Football Association. He caught 34 passes for 476 yards and 10 touchdowns in nine games for the Beef. Prior to joining the Beef, Nizzi caught 13 passes for 273 yards during his senior year at Nebraska-Omaha.
