San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. (Oct. 30, 2007) - The 2007 ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats are not sitting idle while the other 16 Arena Football League teams are making moves during the free agency period, which began October 29. The SaberCats have come to contract terms with former All-AFL FB/LB Frank Carter, the club announced today.
Carter (6-0, 258, MacMurray) played for the Utah Blaze last year and will enter his 7th AFL season in 2008. Playing in 11 games in 2007, Carter ran the ball 11 times for four touchdowns and recorded 16.0 tackles with 1.5 sacks on defense.
"Frank is a veteran player that knows how to execute in this game," emphasized SaberCats head coach and general manager Darren Arbet. "He will be a valuable asset at a couple of positions for us heading into 2008."
Carter enjoyed his finest arena season in 2005 with the Las Vegas Gladiators when he accounted for 9.0 sacks and 23.5 tackles while being selected as a First-Team All-Arena league member. He also earned All-Ironman Team recognition in 2006 after piling up nine touchdowns on 41 carries with 29.0 tackles and 4.5 sacks for the Nashville Kats.
Frank becomes the second Carter to join the SaberCats in the last week and is the first free agent signing of the off season by the defending champions. The team selected Toure' Carter last Friday from the Austin Wranglers in the league's Dispersal Draft.
A premier franchise in the AFL, the San Jose SaberCats have captured three ArenaBowl titles, seven Western Division championships, eight consecutive playoff appearances and own the league's best regular season record this decade.
Season tickets for the 2008 season are now on sale. Contact a SaberCats' account executive at (408) 573-5577 to reserve your seats today. More information is also available on the team's official website www.sanjosesabercats.com.
