Tampa Bay Storm News Release

TAMPA - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm have signed free-agent wide receiver Tyrone Timmons to a two-year deal, Head Coach and General Manger Tim Marcum announced today.

"Tyrone is a young talent that brings a ton of size to his position," said Marcum. "We liked what we saw in him at the end this past year."

Timmons, 6-foot-4, 220-pounds, spent the final four weeks of the 2007 AFL season on the Storm practice squad. A 2007 graduate from Mississippi Valley State University, he earned I-AA All-America and First-Team All-SWAC (Southwest Athletic Conference) honors. He is second all-time to only Jerry Rice in the MVS record books with 148 career receptions and 2,285 receiving yards and one of three players in school history to record 1,000 receiving yards.

A former star at Tampa Bay Tech High School, he was the first quarterback in Tampa Bay Tech history to lead the team to consecutive playoff appearances. Timmons spent the beginning of the AFL offseason on the practice squad of the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League. The Chiefs released him earlier this month.

The Tampa Bay Storm look forward to the 2008 season as many key players from 2007 will return. AFL Co-Rookie of the year and All-Rookie quarterback Brett Dietz, All-Ironman Lawrence Samuels, record-setting fullback Torrance Marshall and touchdown-leading wide receiver Terrill Shaw, among others will be back to take the 2008 AFL season by storm.
