SAN JOSE, Calif. (Nov. 17, 2006) - Former Middle Tennessee State defensive tackle and Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year JEFF LITTLEJOHN has agreed to a two-year contract with the two-time ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats, the club announced today.
Littlejohn (6-2, 314) dazzled in his senior season as a Blue Raider accounting for 34 tackles, two sacks, one interception and one blocked field goal. His accomplishments on the field earned him the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year award in 2005.
In 45 career games at MTSU, the first-team all-conference standout accumulated 95 total tackles, three sacks, one fumble recovery, one interception and one blocked kick. Littlejohn enjoyed the best game of his four-year college career against Akron where he tallied eight tackles.
"Jeff has the strength and ability to be a dominant force in this league," SaberCats' Head Coach and General Manager Darren Arbet said. "He is an NFL type of player and we are fortunate to have him join our team."
Littlejohn signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 5, 2006 and recorded seven tackles in four preseason games with the team.
Emerging from the heralded Gaffney (S.C.) High School, Littlejohn was rated the No. 6 defensive lineman in the nation by ESPN and the No. 63 overall prospect. He led his team to a Class 4A state championship his junior year with a 14-1 record. Littlejohn finished his high school career with an astounding 250 tackles, 40 sacks, three interceptions and three blocked field goals.
In other transactions, defensive lineman Walter Curry, who signed a free agent contract with the SaberCats on October 9, was placed on the other league exempt list.
A premier franchise in the AFL, San Jose has captured two ArenaBowl titles, six Western Division championships, seven consecutive playoff appearances and owns the league's best regular season record this decade.
