SaberCats Add Two Local Talents

SAN JOSE - The SaberCats today announced the additions of FB/LB Matt Castelo and DL Christian Clark. The team also announced DL Eric Phillips has been activated from Injured Reserve.

FB/LB MATT CASTELO

A standout at linebacker for San Jose State, Castelo (5-10, 220) totaled 433 tackles (203 solo), 27.0 for loss, 5.5 sacks, three interceptions, six passes defensed and one forced fumble. His best season came as a senior in 2007 where he totaled 141 tackles, 12.5 for loss with two sacks, one interception and three passes defensed.

A native of San Jose, Castelo played for Valley Christian (CA) High School where he earned All-Central Coast Section honors twice. As a senior he was credited with 128 tackles, 10 sacks and was named the league's 'Linebacker of the Year.'

DL CHRISTIAN CLARK

Clark (6-2, 260) finished his collegiate career with 129 tackles, 19.5 sacks, 31.0 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and five passes defensed. He enjoyed his best season in 2009, earning All-Big Sky honors at defensive tackle. He led the team with 10.0 sacks, tying him for sixth in Sacramento State single-season history.
