San Jose SaberCats News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. â Two-time Arena Football League defensive Player of the Year CLEVAN THOMAS was activated from injured reserve today as the defending ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats adjusted their roster in preparation for Sunday's game at New Orleans.
The team also signed veteran lineman TONY PLANTIN off the practice squad.
To make room on the roster, the SaberCats put OL/DL Cedric Pittman on injured reserve with a knee injury and released DS Tremain Mack.
Thomas has been out of action for nearly a year after sustaining a torn ACL in a game at New York on March 7, 2004. Named the league's best defensive player in both 2002 and 2003, Thomas is expected to see action on Sunday.
During his rookie season in 2002, Thomas played every defensive down and returned kicks as the SaberCats won an AFL record 16 games, including their first league championship. In 2003, the former Florida State standout set AFL records by intercepting 13 passes on the year and collecting at least one in seven consecutive games.
Plantin (6-4, 295, Clemson) is a five-year AFL veteran who saw action with Columbus and Arizona last season posting 9.0 tackles and 3.0 sacks in nine games. He began his career with the Milwaukee Mustangs in 2000 playing two years before being selected by the Los Angeles Avengers in the 2002 Dispersal Draft.
The SaberCats game at New Orleans on Sunday will be televised live in the Bay Area on KNTV (NBC11) at Noon and can also be heard on the team's flagship radio station KNBR-1050 AM.
