Ryan Karl leads Swamp Bats Past Mainers in 5-2 Win

July 28, 2015 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Keene Swamp Bats News Release

The Swamp Bats met the Mainers for the second straight game tonight but tonight was a different result as Keene would win it 5-2 and improve to 10-28 on the season.

Ryan Karl would have another great game for himself when Keene would get on the board first with an RBI single from the Cornell product in the 4th inning that brought home Matt Burns.

The Mainers would respond with a run of their own on an RBI double from Dalton Thomas. Thomas came into tonight's game with a .370 batting average. The Mississippi native has a .521 batting average against the Swamp Bats this season.

The Swamp Bats would get another run in the bottom of the 5th inning and then a solo home run from Ryan Karl in the bottom of the 6th inning would have Keene lead it 3-1. The solo blast would be Karl's 24th RBI on the season, which leads the team in that category. Karl has eight home runs overall on the season, which is good for 3rd in the NECBL. Karl went 2-for-3 today with two RBIs.

Keene would get much-needed insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th inning off of an RBI triple from Matt Burns and a sacrifice fly from NECBL All-Star Garrett Christman.

Brendan Skidmore would get a lead off home run in the top of the 9th to start a comeback but could not keep the momentum going with three straight outs.

John Leiter would start for Keene tonight, his first start since June 26th. He would toss five innings and allow just one earned run on four hits. He also struck out one.

Keene would snap a four game losing streak and will start a three game road strip at North Adams Wednesday night.
