Russo Recalled To Houston Aeros Of American Hockey League
March 13, 2010 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Port Huron Icehawks News Release
PORT HURON, MI - Fresh off last night's 4-3 overtime victory over the Bloomington PrairieThunder, Adam Russo expected to head to Fort Wayne to take on the Komets. Instead, the Port Huron Icehawks goalie will travel to Chicago with the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League.
The Aeros called up Russo after goalie Wade Dubielewicz was recalled to the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League. The Aeros will play in Chicago against the Wolves Saturday and in Rockford, Illinois against the Icehogs Sunday.
Russo becomes the first Icehawks player called up to an AHL team this season after beginning the 2009-10 campaign at training camp with the Worcester Sharks of the same league. The 26-year-old previously left the Icehawks in February to represent Italy in the European Ice Hockey Challenge.
This season, Russo is 18-11-0-3 and leads the Icehawks in games played (36), minutes played (1970:17), GAA (2.68) and saves (884), and his goals against average is fourth in the IHL.
Russo is the 14th IHL player to be called up to an AHL team. Dayton's Ryan Mior has been with the Albany River Rats since late February, and Bloomington's Matt McIlvane is skating with the Peoria Rivermen.
Justin Grevious was signed to a professional tryout for the weekend in Russo's absence. Grevious was picked up by the Icehawks when Russo left for Italy, but did not see any ice time. The Muskegon native has spent time with the home-town Lumberjacks of the IHL this season, as well as the West Michigan Blizzards and the Battle Creek Revolution of the AAHL.
Single game tickets for all Icehawks home games are on sale now at McMorran Arena Box Office, any Ticket Master location or by phone. For more information, visit www.porthuronicehawks.com or call 810-966-3800.
