
Rush Make Splash with Addition of Alex Penner & Jared Brown

(Rapid City, SD) - At Monday's weekly Rush Hour coaches' show held at Boston's Restaurant, the Rapid City Rush announced the addition of forwards Alex Penner and Jared Brown. The pair brings a mix of toughness and offensive firepower in preparation for Friday's home opener against the Denver Cutthroats. Penner, 26, is well known as one of the toughest players in all of 'AA' hockey, finishing 3rd in the ECHL with 239 penalty minutes (PIM) last year for the Colorado Eagles. The Port Elgin, Ontario native added nine points (4G, 5A) in 65 games played during 2011-12.
Penner split the 2010-11 campaign between the Eagles, where he totaled six points (2G, 4A) and 100 PIM in just 21 games, and Nottingham Panthers of the EIHL where in just 25 games, he amassed nine points (4G,5A) and 271 PIM.
The 6'4", 220-pound forward turned pro with the Laredo Bucks back in 2007. In all, Penner is entering his sixth professional season and has appeared in 236 contests, including time spent at the AHL level with the Lake Erie Monsters. Over his career, Penner has racked up 17 goals and 20 assists for 37 points and an impressive 908 PIM.
The Rush also welcome speedy center, and former Quad City Mallard, Jared Brown to the fold. Brown began this season in Poland, skating for GKS Gastowice where he had 17 points (5G, 12A) in just contests.
Last year, his rookie campaign, Brown finished with 26 goals and 40 assists in 66 games played for Quad City. The Gardner, Kansas native made a big impact in his first campaign, leading all rookies and ranking ninth overall in the CHL with 66 total points.
Prior to turning pro, the 26-year-old played four years of NCAA hockey for Northern Michigan University. Over four years as a Wildcat, the 5' 10", 195-pound Brown scored 32 times and recorded 83 points in 155 games. In his senior campaign, Brown produced nine goals and 23 points in 41 games while helping NMU to the school's first NCAA tournament bid in a decade.
In addition, the Rush announced that center Mitch Stephens has been placed on team suspension and will return to Europe to further his career.
