Rapid City Rush News Release
(Denver, CO) - For the fourth straight game between the two teams, the Rapid City Rush and Denver Cutthroats needed a shootout to determine a winner on Tuesday night. Scott Brannon and Tristin Llewellyn both found the net for Rapid City, but it was the Cutthroats who came away with the 3-2 shootout victory on home ice. The Rush now host the Quad City Mallards on Friday and Saturday night. Friday is Firefighter Appreciation Night and Saturday will feature the first team poster giveaway of the season. For tickets, contact the Rush office at 716-7825 or online at gotmine.com.
J.P. Chabot got the Cutthroats on the board first when he deflected home a chest-high centering pass from Mario Boilard for his fifth tally of the season and lone goal of the opening period.
Rapid City bounced back in the second period, netting a pair of goals less than four minutes apart. The first came on the powerplay from rookie Scott Brannon who tucked a rebound under Cutthroat goaltender Kieran Millan for his third goal in the last five games. On the play, defenseman Riley Weselowski picked up an assist that served as the 100th point of his career. Later, a scramble in front of the Denver net eventually led to defenseman Tristin Llewellyn potting his first goal in a Rush uniform, giving Rapid City a 2-1 lead. The advantage lasted less than two minutes before the Cutthroats answered with a powerplay goal of their own from Luke Fulghum to even the game.
In the shootout, Brad Smyth, Fulghum and Troy Schwab all lit the lamp for the Cutthroats, lifting their squad to a 3-2 triumph.
