
Blaze Drop Kids Day Game to Mallards

BLOOMINGTON - The Bloomington Blaze, fueled by Mid-Illini Credit Union, lost a Kids Day game to the Quad City Mallards 4-2 on Wednesday morning at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
For the second time this season, the Blaze recorded a goal at the 19:59 mark of a period as Jon Booras lit the lamp just before the first period horn sounded, with assists given to Matthew Larke and Nicklas Lindberg.
The Mallards tied the contest 4:09 into the second period on a rebound goal by Matt Boyd, and the visitors took a 2-1 lead with 9:57 remaining in the middle chapter on another rebound goal by Mike Hellyer early in a power play. The Blaze tied the game at 2-2 early in a power play when Travis Granbois slid in a rebound during a flurry with 4:54 left in the opening period on assists from Jesse Dudas and Sebastien Trudeau.
Quad City took a 3-2 lead with 16:49 left in the third period when Anthony Perdicaro drove a feed at the left post from Matt Duffy and Obi Aduba. The Blaze were given a power play and emptied their net in the final minute, but Mickey Lang scored into the vacant goal with 2.3 seconds remaining to seal the Mallards win.
John Murray earned the win in the Quad City net with 39 saves while Dan Dunn made 31 stops in the loss. The Blaze were 1-for-4 on the power play while the Mallards were 2-of-7 with the man advantage.
The Blaze return to action at U.S. Cellular Coliseum on Friday at 7:05 p.m. against the Quad City Mallards for the annual Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are asked to bring new stuffed animals to throw on the ice after the first Blaze goal. Fans may also bring new unwrapped toys to donate to Toys for Tots. Anyone who brings a new toy or stuffed animal to Friday's Teddy Bear Toss will receive a voucher for $6 off an adult ticket to this Sunday's 4:05 p.m. game against Missouri.
