Quad City Mallards News Release
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (December 12, 2012) - Anthony Perdicaro snapped a 2-2 tie early in the third period and John Murray made 39 saves as the Quad City Mallards defeated the host Bloomington Blaze 4-2 Wednesday.
Perdicaro redirected home a centering pass from Matt Duffy- who had two assists- to give the Mallards their second lead of the day at 3:11 of the third. The Mallards protected the one goal advantage until Mickey Lang's shorthanded empty net goal clinched the win with just over two seconds left in the game.
The Mallards had first moved in front by overturning a 1-0 deficit with back-to-back second period goals. Matt Boyd tied the game at one by sweeping home a rebound at 4:09 of the second. At 10:03, Mike Hellyer's close range power play goal gave the Mallards a 2-1 lead. However, just over five minutes later, the Blaze rebounded to even the score at two with a power play goal of its own. Travis Granbois jammed in the equalizer at the 15:06 mark of the second.
The Blaze, in fact, scored both of its goals on the man advantage. Bloomington was also on the power play when Matt Larke buried a rebound to give the Blaze a 1-0 lead with just four tenths of a second left in the first period, but, undaunted after surrendering that goal just before the horn, the Mallards would battle back for the win.
The Mallards return to action on the road against the Rapid City Rush Friday night at 8:05 p.m. The Mallards next play at home Friday, December 21 at 7:05 p.m. against the Tulsa Oilers.
