Rochester Red Wings News Release

Ryan Rupe continued his mastery against Rochester Monday afternoon, striking out 10 as Pawtucket beat the Red Wings 9-3 at Frontier Field.

Pawtucket came out strong, scoring single runs in both the first and second innings and two runs in the third. Rochester fought back in both the second and third innings when Todd Sears hit his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot in the second, over the right field wall which Michael Ryan virtually mirrored in the third, with his 13th home run of the season.

The PawSox tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning before knocking out Red Wings starter Matt Carnes (2-3). Brad Thomas relieved Carnes with two on and one out. Thomas allowed one more run to cross the plate before closing out the inning.

Rupe left the game in the fifth inning with one on and two outs after allowing a RBI single to Alex Prieto to score Brandon Marsters, and after striking out nine consecutive Red Wings batters. Every Red Wing hitter struck out at least one time against Rupe. The Major League record for consecutive strikeouts by a pitcher is 10, held by Tom Seaver on April 22, 1970 vs. the Padres.

Pawtucket scored their final two runs off Willie Eyre in the eighth inning when Andy Abad had his fourth hit of the game to give the PawSox a 9-3 lead. Abad is now 19 for 35 (.543) against the Red Wings this season; he was also named the International League Player of the Week Monday, in part for the six multi-hit games he has posted in the past seven days.
