Royals wrap up Cactus League action with a tie

SURPRISE, AZ - The Omaha Royals settled for a 1-1 tie with the Oklahoma RedHawks Thursday in their final Spring Training game.

The Royals took a 1-0 lead into the top of the ninth, when Oklahoma scored a run off lefty John Gragg in his only inning of work.

Omaha scored its lone run in the fifth inning, on consecutive two-out doubles by catcher Paul Phillips and shortstop Wilson Valdez.

Royals starter Bobby Keppel tossed five scoreless innings, despite allowing eight hits. He walked one and struck out four.

Left-hander Derrick DePriest fired two hitless innings of relief, striking out three. Dave Elder tossed a scoreless eighth inning.

Omaha finishes with a record of 4-2-3 in Cactus League play.

The Royals open their 2006 Pacific Coast League regular season at Rosenblatt Stadium on Thursday, April 6th at 7:05 p.m. when they host the Nashville Sounds.
