Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
SPRINGDALE, Ark. - With only eight games remaining for the Kansas City Royals in Surprise, Arizona, Major League rosters have begun to slim down, while the 2015 Northwest Arkansas Naturals roster begins to take shape.
The Naturals have been busy since last Saturday, playing 5 games in six days, with Wednesday as their lone off day. On Saturday, the Naturals played long ball in a 4-0 victory over San Antonio. Potential future 2015 Natural Raul Mondesi went 2-3 with a home run, while 2014 Natural Mark Threlkeld hit a solo home run in his lone at bat. Northwest Arkansas followed that up with a 6-1 win over the Jackson Generals on Sunday.
Since Sunday, the Naturals hit a slight rough patch on Monday and Tuesday falling 7-6 to Frisco, and 5-3 to San Antonio on Tuesday before closing out the week with a 1-1 tie yesterday against Jackson. Fromer 2013 Natural Aaron Brooks pitched five shutout innings in the tie, while 2013-2014 Natural Jorge Bonifacio chipped in with a double.
For the Royals, a few 2014 Naturals made appearances in yesterday's 3-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners. Justin Trapp pinch-ran for former 2011 Natural Salvador Perez, while Whit Merrifield replaced Alex Gordon in left field to close out the game. In addition, Ethan Chapman pinch ran for 2015 Hall of Fame nominee and former 2010 Natural Eric Hosmer. Former 2009 and 2011 Naturals, Greg Holland and Kelvin Herrera made relief appearances, each of which picked up their second hold of the spring.
