The Royals' Matt Dalton (10-2-2; 18/22, 40:00) suffered his second consecutive playoff loss. Andrew Engelage (no decision, 6/7, 20:00) got his first pro playoff experience as he took over in net for the Royals in the third period. Two of Cincinnati's goals were scored while playing with the man advantage (2-7).
Cincinnati got all they would need 2:59 into the game with Mathieu Aubin ripped one off the top of the left circle that beat Dalton high to the short side with a lot of traffic creating screens in front of the net. The Cyclones took a 2-0 lead eleven seconds into the second period while playing with the man advantage when a series of defensive miscues resulted in an easy back-door tap in for Ryan Del Monte. Josh Heidinger made it 3-0 with his second goal in two nights against the Royals when he forced one through after a scramble in front of the Royals' net 6:13 into the second period. Dustin Sproat concluded the second period spurt with his sixth of the playoff season, when he ripped a rocket off the top of the left circle that beat Dalton high to the glove side. Aubin closed out the scoring at the 14:28 mark of the third he got off a bullet from the left circle that beat Engelage to the glove side while Cincinnati was playing on a four-on-three power play. The game got ugly in the waning moments with a line brawl that resulted in ejections for both teams.
