Royals and RedHawks slugfest ends in tie

SURPRISE, AZ - There was plenty of offensive firepower on display Wednesday in Surprise, as the Omaha Royals and Oklahoma RedHawks battled to a 12-12 tie at the Spring Training complex that the two clubs share.

Royals first baseman Graham Koonce was 4-for-5 with three doubles, driving in one run and scoring twice himself. Third baseman Mike Aviles added three hits, including a double and a two-run homer.

Omaha outfielders Adam Greenberg and Mitch Maier chipped in two hits apiece to the Royals' 19-hit attack, with each knocking in two runs and crossing the plate once.

Royals starter Thad Markray pitched two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out one batter, as neither team plated a run until the third. Omaha committed two errors in the contest, leading to five unearned runs.

Omaha, now 2-2-2 in Cactus League action, visits the Portland Beavers Thursday at the San Diego Padres Spring Training complex in Peoria, Arizona.

The Royals open their 2007 Pacific Coast League season on Thursday, April 5th at Albuquerque, with the home opener at Rosenblatt Stadium slated for Friday, April 13th at 7:05 p.m., also vs. the Isotopes.
