Royals Agree to Terms with Forward Louie Caporusso

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, today announced that the organization has agreed to terms with forward Louie Caporusso ["CAP or OO soe"]. The Royals now have thirteen players announced as signed for the 2013-14 season. In addition to Caporusso, the others are: Matt Campanale (d), Julien Cayer (f), Ethan Cox (f), David Marshall (f), Bryant Molle (d), Ian O'Connor (f), Ryan Santana (f), Bobby Shea (d), Yannick Tifu (f), Brad Walch (d), Sean Wiles (f), and Marc Zanette (f).

Caporusso (5'10) (201), a third year pro from Woodbridge, Ontario, split last season between the Elmira Jackals in the ECHL and the Binghamton Senators in the AHL. While with Elmira, Caporusso racked up forty-five points (19g-26a) in forty-one games, which translates into a 1.098 points per game average-second only to Dustin Gazely on the Jackals. Caporusso, who played to a plus-15 (+15) in his time with Elmira, also played twenty-three games with Binghamton in the AHL. While with the Senators, Caporusso added six points (1g-5a) and eight penalty minutes. He played with Elmira in the post-season and picked up eight points (2g-6a) in the Jackals' six first-round playoff games against the Florida Everblades.

In his rookie season, 2011-12, Caporusso, a third round pick of the Ottawa Senators in 2007, also split his time between Elmira and Binghamton. Caporusso, who has racked up seventy-seven points in seventy total ECHL games, started the season with the Jackals and earned his first call-up to the AHL in early November of 2011. After a seven game stint with Binghamton, he returned to Elmira. In January, he took off on a torrid pace (6g-4a in nine games) before sustaining an injury that kept him out of action for over a month. In early March, Caporusso returned to the Jackals and promptly racked up four points (3g-1a) in two games, which earned him another late season call-up back to Binghamton. In his twenty-nine games with the Jackals that year, he picked up thirty-two points (16g-16a) and eight penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro, Caporusso put together an outstanding four-year collegiate career at the University of Michigan. During his tenure at U-M, the Wolverines advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of his four seasons of eligibility-twice making it to the Frozen Four. In his senior season, U-M advanced all the way to the championship title game before being eliminated by the University of Minnesota-Duluth. Among the many accomplishments achieved by Caporusso in his collegiate career, he was the fifth leading scorer in NCAA hockey in his sophomore season. That year, he was selected as the Wolverines' Most Valuable Player and was a Hobey Baker Memorial Award finalist. While at U-M, Caporusso registered 144 points (68g-76a) and 96 penalty minutes in 160 total college games.
