Reading Royals News Release
Greenville, SC- The Reading Royals of the, affiliate of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League and the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League, won a decisive Game Five of the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Quarterfinal matchup against the Greenville Road Warriors, 5-0, at BI-LO Center in Greenville, South Carolina. The victory clinched the first round playoff series for the Royals four games to one.
Mark Owuya (2-1-0, 19/19) recorded his second consecutive shutout-and fourth for the team in the series' five games. Stan Galiev opened the scoring 17:12 into the first on the Royals' second power play chance of the game. Yannick Tifu set up Mark Mitera in the high slot. Mitera fed Galiev deep in the left circle for a hot rocket short-side high for his second of the playoff season. Reading built a 4-0 lead with three straight in the second, starting with a breakaway twenty-three seconds in by Brett Flemming. Yannick Tifu bagged his fourth of the playoff season 4:40 into the second, when Stan Galiev picked off a breakout pass deep in the offensive zone and threaded a cross-crease pass to the waiting Tifu. Ethan Cox scored his first of playoff season 12:43 into the second when Flemming's shot from the point was deflected and Greenville's goalie Scott Stajcer (0-1-0, 35/40) made the save, but the rebound fell to the left side of the crease, where Cox slipped it home. Barry Almeida added his first of the playoff season 7:48 into the third on a self-made break which he finished with a low hard shot that went under Stajcer.
The Royals now advance to the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals series against either the Elmira Jackals or Florida Everblades, who play Game Six of their first round series on Monday (April 15) in Estero, Florida. Regardless of the outcome of that series, the Royals will start the ECSF best of seven series on Friday, April 19, at 7:05 pm at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PA. Friday's game night broadcast on CBS Sports Radio 1240 am and 98.5 fm will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show presented by Steve Moyer Subaru at 6:35 pm.
