Rox Use Long Ball To Defeat Dirt Dawgs

Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release
LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Saturday, June 22, 2013) The Brockton Rox made good use of the long ball, hitting three homeruns, to defeat the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs 9-8, on Johnny Appleseed Night at Doyle Field.
"Both teams played good ball out there," said Scott Lettre, Director of Baseball Operations for Wachusett. "The lead went back and forth for awhile, and Brocton was able to rally enough runs for the victory. Hats off to them for the hard earned win."
The Rox (4-6) hit two solo shots off of Wachusett starter Kyle Zaorski (IUP) in the top of the first. Stephan Halibej (NJIT) and Kyle Silva (Maine) had the homeruns for Brockton.
The Dirt Dawgs (3-7) battled back throughout the game, finally taking a 7-6 lead in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a Tyler Mikrut (SEMO) three-run homer.
Wachusett's Devin Perry (Crowder College) increased the lead to 8-6 in the bottom of the sixth, scoring on a pass ball after hitting a leadoff double.
Unfortunately, the Dirt Dawgs were unable to hang on to the lead as the Rox rallied to score three runs in the top of the seventh, taking a 9-8 lead.
John Sheehan (William & Mary) was able to hold the Dirt Dawgs scoreless in the final three innings, striking out six in the process. Joe Fasano (NJIT) (1-0) got the W for the Rox.
Dalton Keck (Lipscomb University) took the loss for the Dirt Dawgs, moving to 0-2 on the early season.
Jamill Moquete (UMass Boston) continued to show his power for the Dirt Dawgs, hitting a two-run homerun in the bottom of the third.
