
Suns Fall Victim to Late Inning Rallies, Losing 7-4

The Pittsfield Suns (5-4) and Nashua Silver Knights (5-2) played a tight game until the Silver Knights broke the game open with two runs in the 7th and 8th innings.
The Suns held a 4-3 lead going into the 7th innings riding another strong start by Christian Lavoie (UMass-Lowell). Lavoie was able to pitch around five walks through six innings to allow only three runs.
Ryan Dietrich supplied three of the four Suns runs by driving in his eighth and ninth runs of the season, good for second in the FCBL, and scoring on a 5-3 put out by Kyle Singleton (Northeastern Oklahoma State). The Suns took a 4-3 lead in the top of the sixth on a run scoring single by Luke Reynolds (UMass-Lowell).
While the Suns were able to pitch around fivewalks in the first six innings, it was five more walks in the seventh and eighth that led to the loss. The Silver Knights were able to score their final four runs on just two hits, taking advantage of the five free passes and winning the game.
The Suns season continues Saturday night for a doubleheader against the Torrington Titans (3-6). The Suns and Titans are to complete the final two and a half innings of their Opening Day matchup starting at 6:00 PM and then play their regularly scheduled game 30 minutes after the first game is completed.
