New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ A six run lead for New Jersey was not enough as they fell in 11 innings to the Brocton Rox 7-6 at Yogi Berra Stadium.
Elvis Corporan got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with an RBI double, and Mike Rucci followed with one of his own to make the score 2-0 after two.
Francisco Lebron's 13th homer of the year highlighted a three-run fifth that put the home side up 6-0.
Unfortunately, the Rox stormed back with a run in each of the next four innings, including three in the top of the ninth to tie the ballgame. With their backs to the wall, A single by Eugene Julien made it 6-4, and Jake Daubert hit a two-run double to tie the score at 6 and send the contest to extras.
After neither team could score in the 10th, Brian Rosenblat's two-out, RBI double pushed Brockton ahead by a run in the top of the eleventh.
In typical fashion, the Jackals fought back hard in the bottom half of the frame, with Steve Checksfield reaching on a two-out single. Benji Gil followed with a double, but Checksfield was out at home to end the game.
Rucci had a monster game for the Jackals, going 4-for-5 with 2 RBI and two doubles. Ricardo Cordova was stellar as well, tallying three hits, including a double and a triple. Starter Joel Bennett did his part, pitching seven strong innings, allowing only one earned run and striking out nine.
For the Rox, Matt Cucurullo was 4-for-6 with two runs, and Rosenblatt added two hits of his own.
The Jackals continue their series against the Rox tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. For tickets and other information, please call the Jackals Ticket Office at 973-746-7434 or visit www.jackals.com.
