June 28, 2022 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
St. Cloud Rox News Release
St. Cloud, MN - St. Cloud (21-6) took a 2-1 game from La Crosse (15-15) behind eight innings on the mound from Matt McClure (Loyola-Marymount) to sweep the Loggers.
With the Rox' win and a loss from Willmar on Tuesday night, St. Cloud can clinch its second consecutive first-half championship with a win in Bismarck on Wednesday.
McClure had the best outing from a Rox starting pitcher this season, throwing eight frames and allowing one run on just four hits. McClure struck out five Loggers and didn't issue any walks to help St. Cloud to the win.
Chase Grillo (Washington State) came out of the bullpen in the ninth to record his eighth save of the season. Grillo leads the league in saves after striking out two in a perfect final frame.
St. Cloud led from wire-to-wire on Tuesday after scoring in the first inning. John Nett (St. Cloud State) reached third on an error and came into score on a sacrifice fly from Trevor Austin (Mercer).
The Rox got a huge boost from Brady Prewitt on Tuesday who had three of St. Cloud's five hits on the night. Prewitt helped push across the Rox' second run on the night, moving around Ethan Mann (New Mexico State) who scored on a wild pitch.
