Old Orchard Beach News Release

Brockton, Mass. - For the fifth time in as many meetings, the Nashua Silver Knights topped the Brockton Rox by just one run as they came away with a 3-2 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Campanelli Stadium in Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) action.

The first place-Silver Knights improve their record to 27-7 on the season, while the Rox fall to 15-17.

Brockton struck first on an RBI single in the first inning from Vito Perna (Southeastern Louisiana) that scored Norton's Sean Ryan (Wheaton) and made it, 1-0. However, Nashua answered right back in the top of the second with a run of its own after an RBI groundout from John Puttress (Northeastern) plated James Katsiroubas (UMass-Lowell) and tied the game.

The Rox regained the lead in the bottom of the second thanks to an RBI groundout from Luis Gonzalez (Concordia) that scored East Bridgewater's Greg Baggett (Bentley). The hosts held that advantage until the fifth inning, when the Silver Knights bounced back with a pair of runs to take a 3-2 lead

After a leadoff walk from Logan Gillis (Bentley), Katsiroubas launched an RBI double into the right-center field gap that plated Gillis and tied the game. Moments later, Jon Minucci (Southern New Hampshire) belted a one-out single to center field to score Katsiroubas and give the visitors a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Following another tremendous start from Nick Poore (Boston College), Brad MacHaffie (Elon) and Cody Rocha (Assumption) each worked a perfect eighth and ninth inning respectively to hold off the Rox late in the game.

Rocha earned his seventh save of the season, while Poore improved to 4-1 with the win. The southpaw lasted seven innings, allowing two unearned runs on five hits and two walks, while fanning two.

On the other end, Joe Fasano (New Jersey Institute of Technology) suffered the loss (1-2) for Brockton after scattering three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks in five innings.

Craig LeJeune (George Washington) was stellar in relief for the Rox, allowing just two hits in three scoreless innings of work. Westwood's John Sheehan (William & Mary) was excellent as well in an inning of relief, conceding just one hit and no walks, while striking out two.

Katsiroubas had the hot hand for Nashua, finishing 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI, a stolen base, and two runs scored. Eric White (Maine) also finished with a pair of hits, while Gillis went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored.

Ryan went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored for Brockton, upping his team-high batting average to .381 on the year.

The Rox head to Martha's Vineyard to take on the Sharks on Thursday night at 5 p.m. Meanwhile, the Silver Knights are off until Friday, when they hit the road to face their cross-state rival, the Seacoast Mavericks, at 6 p.m.
