Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - All aboard! Baseball is back! The Round Rock Express kicks off their 14th season at Dell Diamond on Thursday, April 4 with a four-game series against the Omaha Storm Chasers (Kansas City Royals affiliate) followed by four games against the Iowa Cubs (Chicago Cubs affiliate). First pitch for Thursday's season opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
In addition to the normal excitement surrounding Opening Day, the Express partnered up with the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (TOSA) and "Donate Life Texas" to raise awareness about the need for organ donors. Recent heart transplant recipient JR Box will be honored during the ceremonial first pitch. His wife Brooke Box, a former Round Rock Emergency Department nurse and current Air-Evac flight nurse, will throw the pitch in honor of his organ donor as JR is still recovering from surgery. TOSA is also giving away reusable grocery bags to the first 500 fans who either sign up on the state registry at the game or present their driver's license with a DONOR heart in the lower right-hand corner.
The Express also teamed up with "Operation: Military Kids" to honor and recognize children with a parent in the military. Over 100 children with one or both parents in the military, and often times impacted by military deployments, will line the infield during the special opening ceremonies. They'll each hold an American flag in honor of their parents. April is the "Month of the Military Child," making this partnership that much more special.
Opening Day also marks the first "Original Thirsty Thursday" of the year with discounted draft beer and $1 sodas.
Express games are broadcast on The Horn 104.9 FM ESPN Austin and steamed live online at www.espnaustin.com . The games on both Saturday, April 6 and Monday, April 8 will be broadcast on 1260 AM.
