Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
Round Rock, TX - A difficult start was too much for the Albuquerque Isotopes to overcome on Friday. The host Round Rock Express plated four runs in the first inning en route to a 7-3 victory over the Isotopes at Dell Diamond in game four of the series.
Albuquerque (38-44) has dropped three of the first four contests in this set and has lost six of eight overall.
Round Rock (44-38) generated all the offense they would need in the bottom of the first. Steele Walker led off with a double against Brandon Gold before scoring on a two-bagger by Nick Solak. Catcher Sam Huff then lined an opposite-field two-run homer, and Elier Hernandez capped the first inning with a solo shot as the Express led 4-0.
The Isotopes found the scoreboard in the third inning when Wynton Bernard hit a solo homer to the berm in right field, his 13th clout of the year.
Gold surrendered another run in the third, then Huff's second two-run blast of the game chased him in the fifth as Round Rock went ahead 7-1.
D.J. Peterson hit a two-out solo home run in the seventh, his eighth of the season. Bernard brought home Albuquerque's third and final run of the night with a groundout in the eighth.
Albuquerque was limited to four hits. Gold surrendered 12 hits and seven runs in four-plus innings as he took the loss.
Topes Scope: - Gold's 12 hits allowed are tied for the most by an Isotopes starter this season as José Ureña also gave up a dozen knocks June 11 at El Paso.
- Gold has relented 17 home runs over his last eight outings, spanning 38.2 frames. He has surrendered multiple long balls in six of the eight starts. Gold is tied for the most homers given up in the Pacific Coast League (19) along with Round Rock's A.J. Alexy and Parker Dunshee of Las Vegas.
- Reagan Todd struck out three batters in a scoreless inning and has compiled a 1.35 ERA (2 ER/13.1 IP) over his last 15 appearances.
- Peterson homered for the first time in 32 at-bats (June 22 at Las Vegas).
- Huff's two long balls marked the 13th time a player has had a multi-homer contest against Albuquerque this season; was the first time since Yainer Diaz hit two for Sugar Land on July 3.
- Albuquerque's bullpen has not allowed a run over the past two games (seven innings). They have relented just three hits while striking out 10 during the span.
- The Isotopes turned three double plays, tying a season-high achieved five prior times, most recently on June 29 vs. Sugar Land.
On Deck: Right-handed pitcher Karl Kauffmann will make his Triple-A debut for Albuquerque tomorrow. First pitch from Dell Diamond is set for 5:05 p.m. MT (6:05 CT).
