Frisco RoughRiders News Release

The ‘Riders (22-8) scored early and often as they scored eight runs in the first four innings to defeat the RockHounds (17-14) by a score of 8-5. Midland made it a three run game scoring four runs in the final four innings but Warner Madrigal closed the door on any hopes of a comeback by picking up his league leading 10th save.

Midland scored in the first inning to get off to an early lead when Cliff Pennington walked and later scored on a fielder's choice by Tommy Everidge. The RoughRiders answered in their half of the inning when Elvis Andrus singled to left field and Steve Murphy followed with a double to right field that scored Andrus and tied the game at one.

The ‘Riders scored in the bottom of the second when Dustin Majewski singled and later scored on a Corey Ragsdale double to left field. Frisco added two more in the third frame when Chris Davis and Ben Harrison both walked and scored on a Majewski base hit to right field. The RoughRiders extended their lead in the fourth when Craig Gentry led off the inning with a double. Two batters later Murphy singled up the middle and plated Gentry making the score 5-0 in favor of Frisco. A double steal by Andrus and Murphy paid off as Harrison singled and both runners scored. Corey Ragsdale then doubled to right field and Harrison came around to score giving Frisco an 8-0 lead.

Midland chipped away at the Frisco lead scoring a run in the sixth when Pennington scored on a Jesus Guzman base hit. The RockHounds scored three runs in the top of the eighth to make it a three run ballgame going into the ninth but fell short giving Frisco the victory.

John Bannister started and pitched 4 2/3 innings striking out four while allowing a run on two hits. Jake Dittler (1-1) and Chris Michalak pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief with Dittler earning the win before Madrigal pitched the ninth inning to collect his league leading 10th save. Murphy led the way offensively going 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. Majewski and Ragsdale combined to go 4-for-8 with four RBI and a run scored.

In the game, the Frisco line up combined to strike out 17 times including at least one strikeout by each member of the starting line up. The ‘Riders became just the fifth team since the beginning of the Texas League in 1888 to have every starter strikeout at least once.

The series comes to an end Tuesday morning at Dr Pepper Ballpark when Frisco sends Trey Hodges (4-1, 3.41) to the mound against Midland's Vincent Mazzaro (2-2, 2.78) for an 11:00am start.
