West Texas Roughnecks News Release
ODESSA, TX. : The Odessa Roughnecks proudly showed off several improvements to the Ector County Coliseum this afternoon before members of the media. The nearly 60-year old arena has never looked better as improvements and decorations continue to be added.
"We have had more complaints over the past three seasons about the lack of proper air conditioning than all others combined", stated team president Tommy Benizio, "We are grateful to the county and the entire community for supporting the addition of refrigerated air to the coliseum." County Commissioner Greg Simmons was on hand to discuss the project and how it came about. "This has been a project in the works for a long time but one we were committed to making happen", said Simmons of the estimated $4 million renovation, "We are very excited about what this will mean for all summer events especially the Odessa Roughnecks." While paper work and planning are taking place now, the project will physically begin in the spring and Roughnecks fans can expect to feel the results sometime during the 2007 season.
Additional good news on improvements to the arena came from Odessa Jackalopes co-owner Tracey Nyborg as she introduced their project of a state-of-the-art video board. The impressive board is mounted on the West End of the arena and will add to both hockey and football games with features such as instant replay, slow motion, close ups of the action, and more. "We are pleased to make this contribution and hope fans enjoy what this will bring to the experience at both Jackalopes and Roughnecks games.", remarked Nyborg.
The third and final announcement came as Roughnecks head coach Chris Williams and Benizio unveiled four new banners marking the franchises tremendous success in just three seasons. First was the 2004 IFL Franchise of the Year honor, followed by the 2005 NIFL Pacific South Division Championship and undefeated season banner. Next was the 2006 IFL Franchise of the Year award and it was all capped off with the 2006 IFL Intense Bowl 2 Champion banner. These banners are to become a year-round, permanent part of the coliseum.
Season tickets are still available and player try-outs are just a few weeks away on December 9th. Interested parties should either contact the team's office at 432-332-PASS (7277) or log on to www.RoughnecksIFL.com.
