Calgary Roughnecks News Release
Oakville, ON - The Calgary Roughnecks split a pair of weekend pre-season scrimmages with a 14-5 victory over the Toronto Rock on Saturday and then dropped a 19-12 decision to the Minnesota Swarm on Sunday at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre (TRAC) in Oakville, ON.
Roughnecks forward Matthew Dinsdale netted five goals to pace the Riggers offence in Saturday's win over Toronto. Dane Dobbie and Geoff Snider each added two goals while Casey Jackson, Daryl Veltman, Jordan McBride, and Connor Goodwin rounded out the scoring for Calgary.
Mike Burke led the charge on offence with a pair of goals for Toronto who struggled offensively and failed to score on 12 power play opportunities.
Both clubs were resting key players in the contest. Calgary was without Shawn Evans, Jeff Shattler, Curtis Dickson, Jon Harnett, Greg Harnett and Peter McFetridge. On the sidelines for Toronto included Rob Marshall, Patrick Merrill, Josh Sanderson, Kasey Beirnes, Sandy Chapman and Colin Doyle.
Sunday against the Swarm, the Riggers dug themselves a hole to open the game falling behind 4-0 and trailing 14-5 at the half. Calgary fought back in the third quarter, outscoring the Swarm 4-1 to get to within five markers but Minnesota tallied a pair of empty-net goals in the final quarter to seal the victory.
Dane Dobbie and Matthew Dinsdale lead the Roughnecks attack with four goals each. Connor Goodwin netted a pair of markers while Geoff Snider and Dan MacRae had singles for Calgary.
For the second-straight game, Shattler, Evans, Dickson, Greg Harnett and Jon Harnett had the night off for Calgary, with Tor Reinholdt also not dressed for Calgary.
Minnesota's offence was fueled by a four-goal performance from Shane Jackson, who opened the game with a natural hat-trick. Miles Thompson scored three goals and former Roughneck Callum Crawford recorded a goal and two assists.
Calgary's roster will be trimmed to 20 players by Thursday, Dec. 18, before entering the Roughnecks Showcase Weekend on Dec. 20-21, featuring an exhibition game against the Edmonton Rush on Saturday, Dec. 20 (7:00 p.m., Scotiabank Saddledome).
