Roughnecks Receive Verbal Commitments From Four Prospects

ODESSA, TX. : The Odessa Roughnecks announced on Wednesday, September 30, that the organization has received verbal commitments from four prospects for the 2010 season. Three of the four players that have verbally committed to the Odessa Roughnecks are from the offensive side of the ball while one is on defense. Additionally, three of the four players will be newcomers to the Odessa Roughnecks and one is a returning veteran.

"We are continuing to add more size to our roster for next season and I am absolutely excited about the group of guys we are announcing today that have committed." stated Odessa Roughnecks Head Coach, Chris Williams.

WR Cedric Harris (6'2", 190 lbs.) Alabama State -

Cedric Harris will add size to the Roughnecks receiving corps in 2010. Harris had his most productive season with the Alabama State program in 2008 when he caught 14 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns. In 2007, Harris registered 10 receptions for 159 yards and two touchdowns for Alabama State including an average of 15.9 yards a reception. "I'm really excited about Cedric because he gives us a bigger and more physical target to throw to. From watching his film, he plays with a physical style and I think that is something we need in our receiving department." explained Williams.

DB Darius Johnson (6'0", 195 lbs.) Cumberland University -

Defensive back, Darius Johnson, was a three-year starter while at Cumberland University. During his senior season at Cumberland in 2008, Johnson led Cumberland with five interceptions including five pass break-ups. Johnson additionally recorded 29 total tackles, one tackle for loss and returned five kickoffs back for 69 yards. Johnson also recorded 47 total tackles as a starter in 2006. "Darius is a bigger DB with tremendous speed. Just last week he recorded a 40-yard time of 4.34 seconds along with other great workout numbers." stated Williams.

OL Martinus Albert (6'3", 360 lbs.) West Texas A&M / New Mexico State University -

Martinus Albert began his productive college football career at West Texas A&M before transferring to New Mexico State University. Albert is a consistent pass blocker on the offensive line and was recruited highly based on his run blocking. Albert was recommended to the Odessa Roughnecks by former stand out wide out, Anthony Armstrong. "Martinus has the size and the athletic ability to be a productive offensive linemen. We think he can help improve our running game in 2010." explained Williams.

FB Robert Richards (6'0", 290 lbs.) Tarleton State -

Richards was with the Odessa Roughnecks in 2008 and saw action in six games for the Roughnecks that season. Richards saw playing time on defense at linebacker and was a primary goal-line running back in 2008. Richards will be used as a working full- back in 2010 and he will add more size to the Roughnecks running back corps. Richards started for one season while at Tarleton State. "We missed Robert's presence in the locker room last season. He will be a great leader for us on the field and an excellent full-back." stated Williams.
