West Texas Roughnecks News Release
ODESSA, TX. Mayor Larry Melton officially named May 24, "Odessa Roughnecks Day" in the city of Odessa. "It's an honor to be recognized by the city, and we're pleased that after just two years, our community has embraced us the way they have" Owner Tommy Benizio remarked. Not only do the Odessa Roughnecks become the first professional team in the Permian Basin to have a day proclaimed in their name, Odessa also joins an elite club of 4 out of the 22 teams in the NIFL, to have their city declare a day in their name.
The Roughnecks received the honor while attending the Students Against Violence Everywhere (S.A.V.E.) program at Hays Elementary early yesterday, with Jason Johnson and Joe Beene spearheading the motivational speaking. "We love to participate in programs like S.A.V.E., it gives us a chance to give back to the city of Odessa, and to build bonds with local citizens so we can continue to help the community flourish." Abby Benizio stated. You can catch Your Odessa Roughnecks at any of their local appearances or schedule them for an appearance by contacting Keith Thompson, Public Relations Manager at 432-332-7277.
You can also see the 9-0 Roughnecks in action this Saturday May 28, against the San Angelo Stampede. Kick-off is at 7:11PM with the tailgate party starting at 5:00PM.
