Roughnecks Reacquire Former Abilene Ruff Riders DL Fred Thrweatt

MIDLAND, TX. : The West Texas Roughnecks announced on Monday, April 19, that the team has re-signed former Abilene Ruff Riders defensive linemen Fred Thrweatt. Thrweatt (6'3", 395 lbs.) returns for his third stint with the Roughnecks organization after spending the 2009 season and the early portions of the 2010 season with the Abilene Ruff Riders. Before joining the Roughnecks, Thrweatt ranked eighth on the Ruff Riders roster with nine total tackles in four games played in 2010. In 2009, Thrweatt posted 12.5 total tackles with two tackles-for-loss, three sacks, five pass break-ups and one fumble recovery in ten games played for the Ruff Riders.

He has the ability to provide pressure on the quarterback and he is an excellent run-stopper." stated West Texas Roughnecks Head Coach Chris Williams.

Fred_Thrweatt.jpgThrweatt played a key role on the defensive line for the Roughnecks back in 2007 and 2008. Thrweatt helped the Roughnecks post a 7-7 record including a playoff berth in 2008 by supplying pressure in the pocket and finishing in the top ten on the Roughnecks roster in tackles-for-loss. Thrweatt finished in the top fifteen in total tackles for the Roughnecks back in 2007, helping the club finish 8-6 as part of the Intense Football League.

Thrweatt played collegiately at Texas Tech University from 2002-2005. Thrweatt finished his career at Texas Tech with 72 total tackles and three sacks. He was considered an NFL prospect following the 2005 season and was rated as one of the top 50 defensive linemen prospects following his collegiate career.

Thrweatt is a local product out of Midland Lee High School where he played a key role on two state championship teams for the Rebels. Before coming to the Roughnecks in 2007, Thrweatt spent the 2006 season with the CenTex Barracudas, formerly of the Intense Football League.
