Calgary Roughnecks News Release

Calgary, AB - The Roughnecks Foundation is thrilled to announce a $60,000 commitment to minor lacrosse this season. The Calgary District Lacrosse Association (CDLA) enrollment is approximately 3,000 players, boys and girls, from the ages of four to 16 playing on over 190 teams. The CDLA is comprised of eight clubs: one from each quadrant in Calgary (Axemen-SE, Hornets-NW, Knights-NE and Sabrecats-SW) and four from areas surrounding the city (Rockyview Rage-Cochrane and Airdrie, High River Heat, Strathmore, and the Okotoks Mustangs). Each of the eight districts will receive $6,000 this season for a total donation of $48,000.

By providing minor clubs with this funding, it will enable members to keep registration fees stable and offset the costs associated with running the season, including the high cost of floor time, team uniforms and equipment purchases.

"The CDLA and its member clubs would like to thank the Calgary Roughnecks and Roughnecks Foundation for the generous donation towards Calgary minor lacrosse," commented Ekke Loo, CDLA president. "The CDLA is also excited for the partnership involving the long-standing Canada Day Tournament. We hope to keep growing the tournament with the help of the Calgary Roughnecks and for it to continue to be the premier box lacrosse tournament in North America."

The Roughnecks Foundation will also donate $12,000 to the CDLA as part of its commitment to growing the game of lacrosse. This includes supporting the Calgary Roughnecks Canada Day Lacrosse Tournament, held over June 28-30 in Calgary. Every year the tournament hosts approximately 100 teams in midget and below, making it the largest indoor lacrosse tournament in North America. Teams from across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, British Columbia, and, on occasion, as far away as Australia, participate in the tournament.

The CDLA has been organizing minor box lacrosse in Calgary and the surrounding district for over 30 years and is the council for all Calgary and region lacrosse clubs. The CDLA also partners with Calgary Winter Lacrosse and Calgary Field Lacrosse to promote field lacrosse.

The Roughnecks Foundation raises funds directed to the growth and support of the game of lacrosse along with community wellness initiatives that improve the lives of Calgarians.
