Roughnecks FC Sign Akeil Barrett

Tulsa, Oklahoma - Tulsa Roughnecks FC has signed 26-year-old Forward Akeil Barrett.

"I am very happy for the opportunity to play in my second home from Jamaica," said Barrett, "And I am very glad to defend this city! This place means a lot to me."

Barrett, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, played college soccer at both the University of Akron and the University of Tulsa. While playing college soccer he also played for the NPSL club, Tulsa Athletics. From there he was selected 25th overall in the MLS SuperDraft by Orlando City SC before singing with the Jacksonville Armada. Barrett has also played for Piteå IF, Swope Park Rangers, and the Ocean City Nor'easters.

"Akeil is a player I know very well from The University of Tulsa. He is an exciting, creative player who fans will enjoy watching," said Wayne Farmer, Tulsa Roughnecks General Manager. "Despite being young, Akeil has experience in the MLS and USL and is another example of the exciting style of soccer we want to showcase here at the Tulsa Roughnecks."

The Tulsa Roughnecks F.C. was reborn in 2015 when the professional soccer club began play in the United Soccer League (USL). The Roughnecks play in the USL Championship, one of the most successful professional soccer leagues in the world. The 2017 season marked the Roughnecks most successful campaign, as the team earned its first-ever playoff appearance.
